Master 1 / Bamboo FabLAB

Presentation
During the second half of my Master's degree, we had a team project on innovation. The subject of the project was to design a Fab-Lab on the campus of Vaulx-en-Velin.
The starting point was to choose a theme among those proposed. Our choice was "minimalist and utilitarian" and through the project we conducted theoretical and philosophic study on these two terms.
As a result of our research the concepts which we wanted to explore were the use of a low-tech material as well as self-sufficiency; and in particular the concept of urban agriculture.
The answer to this problem is a building consisting of a bamboo structure covered with ETFE. Its roof is flexible and can thus open or close by means of steel cables.
The bamboo required for the construction would be directly produced on the campus.
This covering shelters a garden meeting space, a workspace situated in a "white-cube" and a space for free manufacturing.
The white-cube is in contrast to the rest of the building because it is constructed from a metallic structure and using high-tech equipment. It is the representation of the work necessary for the creation of a project led in this Fab-Lab.
We also realized experiments in workshops of the Isle d'Abeau to work with the bamboo material.
